Unique Educational Approach

AMISA takes a holistic, education-driven approach to martial arts instruction that emphasizes disciplined physical training, intellectual development, and practical real-world application. Our physical and digital curriculum integrates structured skill progression, critical thinking, and character development, allowing students to understand not just how to perform techniques, but why they work and when they are appropriate.

Core Principles

“It is said of Jujitsu that it would require ten years of practice in order to win victory over one's self and twenty years to win victory over others.”

Meet Our Founders

AMISA exists because most systems teach children what to do — but few teach them who to be.

We believe that physical discipline and intellectual development are not separate pursuits, but a single unified practice — one that builds people capable of protecting themselves, thinking clearly, and moving through the world with purpose and confidence.

That conviction is why AMISA was built: not to produce competitors, but to develop complete human beings.

Jacob Sovey | Founder

Jacob has trained in martial arts for over 20 years, beginning at age 12 and deepening his foundation inside a traditional Japanese dojo starting at 19 — a turning point that shaped everything that followed. That path led him through multiple disciplines, into classrooms, certifications, and ultimately to building AMISA.

He holds a B.S. in Music, an M.A. in Communications, and a Master's Certification in Instructional Design, is a licensed Nevada Substitute Teacher, and is currently pursuing a second master's degree in Special Education. The system he teaches isn't theoretical — it's the product of a life spent using martial discipline to make better decisions, move with intention, and build something worth passing on.

James Milazzo Co-Founder of AMISA.jpg

James Milazzo | Founder

Mr. Milazzo has spent most of his life on a journey to be the best version of himself. During high school, that meant running cross country and track. It led him to get a BA in economics from the University of Rochester, and an MBA from Wake Forest. It has led him to author both fictional and non-fictional content. Mr. Milazzo is largely self-taught.

When reading a business book, Mr. Milazzo learned that highly successful people are disproportionately likely to study martial arts. The discipline from martial arts training carries over into other areas of their lives. That datum led Mr. Milazzo to begin studying jiu jitsu; an art in which he now has two years of experience.

Mr. Milazzo firmly believes that martial arts training should be about more than just learning the physical movements of an art. It should also encompass mental mastery. The goal of mental mastery is to develop the discipline and character necessary to become the best version of yourself.
